Mother Hen

Monday, September 21st, 2009

As a child growing up on a farm, my family and I raised a wide variety of waterfowls and rare breed chickens. The Hen and chicks (pictured here) are brown leghorns, which I raised as a teenager.  This evokes special memories for me. 16×20

Shadows That Disappear

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

This was a still life I set up shortly before we put an addition built onto our home. Only on a very sunny day, at certain time, the sun would shine through my “special window” casting shadows with incredible darkness and intensity. Since I lost the window, due to construction changes on our house, I have tried to duplicate this shadow effect. However, I have been unsuccessful. That moment in time is lost, but now it is forever captured in this painting!

Winter's Gift

Monday, September 7th, 2009

This Amaryllis flower was painted in the middle of a winter season. The plant was in full bloom. I attempted to capture it’s beauty, and added the triangle to give the painting depth and perspective. It was accepted in a juried art show and received a merit ribbon as well. 16×20.
